What are primitive skills? Primitive skills include making stone implements, tanning leather, making baskets, making pottery, finding and cooking edible plants, making fire, tracking and hunting animals, making and using bows and arrows, setting traps and snares, building shelters, making clothing from plants and animal skins, making tools and utensils from bone and wood, and identifying and using medicinal plants. It can also include making clocks and calendars, musical instruments, toys and games, soap, furniture, paints and dyes, cordage, stories, dances, and myths. Basically, primitive skills are the way you do all these things without metal. These skills are therefore often called stone-age skills or stone-age living, although some people might include some simple and accessible metal technologies such as copper casting as well.
